Navigation is simple ... but don't forget to "drill down." This is a wiki, and many layers deep. The wiki takes the form of lists of lists, and some lists have lists of their own!

SEARCH:

As a registered member, you're at liberty to post, comment, create new pages of your own, and maintain them. There are very few "rules and regulations," but before you get started, please take a few minutes to scan the Terms of Service ... which is NOT a legal document!

Help is available in the form of tutorials, User Forums and The Guide ... enjoy!

Whats New

Be visible, be found, sell books!

New index: The Reading Room

Here's a page specifically for readers ... and you can be a reader as well as a writer! This is a marvelous venue for readers to discover new books, now authors -- and for authors to get out there and audition for new readers.

New index: The Book Lovers' Lounge

It speaks for itself, doesn't it?! It's a page for readers to introduce themselves with a profile -- whatever they'd like to upload -- so that when they're commenting and posting all over this wiki, folks can find them, know who they are! Be involved ... enjoy.

New index: The Cover Gallery

Another page which speaks for itself. Artists and publishers are invited to show off their good stuff..

New page: Newsletter Archive

This one speaks for itself. There's a lot in our newsletters ... if you only just joined us, or if you've missed a couple, here's your chance to catch up.

Early results of advertising performance

Also speaks for itself; and makes interesting reading!

Wiki Performance in June

This makes fascinating viewing/reading ... check this out, and remember, we're a start-up. These stats reflect where we were on June 25, with no advertising and about five weeks of "history" behind us. Cool, indeed.

The Guide is online right now!

This is going to be great news for members to whom wikiing is not quite second-nature yet. How about a 61pp, lavishly illustrated book as a PDF download, fully printable, searchable, the works, complete with printing and binding hints. A book written in simple language, assuming "no knowledge" ... and formatted in BIG type, so you can can it open on the desk, or in the lap, while you create your wiki pages! Done and done. It's a 3.75MB download, FREE, and with this resource, the "learning curve" should be down to about two hours. From nada to functional, in a couple of hours. That's not bad.

New page: Booklovers

This is an offspring from the New Members page -- specifically to accommodate members who've been with us a month ore more, an whose graffiti walls (or homepages, if you prefer) are still undeveloped. These members aren't "new" any longer, but they also aren't read to be dovetailed into the Authors & Others A-Z. So we've floated a new page: Booklovers. If you've just got The Guide in your hand, and are just tackling your wiki pages ... you go to the New Members page and experience a rush of horror (you're gone!) ... well, no, you're not. Click on to Booklovers. And there you'll be. You can "graduate" from Booklovers to Authors & Others, Artists, Publishers, whatever you like, any time you're ready to develop your pages. So -- enjoy!

Cover artists (and their friends!) heads-up!

A new page is online -- Art & Artists -- and we’re keen to see this expand -- especially with “cover artists available.” This would be a wonderful talent exchange, where one could find and negotiate with working cover artists -- but it’s only going to come together if existing members spread the word and invite artists of their acquaintance to join us. This is something Keegan can’t do for you, guys: I’m one writer, with only a few artists in my group. So -- let’s do some networking!

How long till we’re ready for a Campaign?

Very soon . We’re up and running -- we still have some bumpy bits to smooth, a couple of gaps to fill. Some pages are still stubs; I’m working on this, but -- folks, a little help here??? Also, some book title links are still “blind” -- no actual link is attached, they’re not going anywhere. And some writers have build beautiful pages and haven’t linked them to anything.

Remember, the object is to be FOUND. Visitors will browse from the Bookstore outward. If your title is not listed in the Books Category pages, you’ll be utterly invisible. Before you call your “presence” at the wiki finished, make sure you’ve not only created your pages, but linked your books into the Titles A-Z *and* the categories where you’d like to be seen.

Not sure how it works? Wellllll … cruise the wiki. Take a glance at how other writers have done it. DOWNLOAD THE GUIDE manual ... ah! Now, that’s how it works.

Come on, folks: as soon as the stubs and “blind links” are attended to, we’ll be due for some advertising. The first round is on me -- my treat.

***

Numerous writers and titles have appeared in these pages, and a great many writers and others have signed with the wiki.

However, many writers (more than half!) have yet to add content to their pages, and as much as we would love to simply add you all to the Authors & Others A-Z list, the effect this is having is that the "live" pages are getting lost among the "Welcome!" pages.

To solve this problem, we've created a new page: New Members. This is, in effect, an intermediate page, where the "Welcome!" pages can easily be found by their new owners. The automatic system -- the engine -- which drives the wiki tells us exactly which pages are being worked on. As soon as we see proper activity on your pages, they'll be moved over to the Authors & Others A-Z list. Something is holding up some users, whose pages are still blank ...! Memorial Day Weekend will certainly be one of those hold-ups, but there's also the "bewilderment" factor, so --

We're also adding a service which we hadn't expected to be offering, but it looks like it'll be necessary. Some users are very, very new to online activities. In fact, they're so new, they can't make heads or tails of how to use the interface. A significant number of people need help -- desperately!

We can offer each desperate writer about 30 minutes, which should be more than enough to build a basic page. Your page will have several elements:

  • Images of your book covers
  • Your bio
  • The blurb for your books
  • Links to your reviews
  • "buy now buttons" or appropriate links
  • Links to your website or blog, or your publisher's pages

These elements should be online and accessible -- so we can easily get hold of them and paste them in here. (When you know this interface, it's a quick job.) As soon as the page is done, we'll email you with the link; and as soon as you approve it, you're online, with the ability to introduce yourself, contact people, sell books. You can specify changes, additions, subtractions, and we'll keep on tweaking till it's just right. It's a safe bet that the full build-and-tweak will take about half an hour...

This is going to be quite a lot of work (all of it fairly unforeseen!) so, in return for the job we're going to ask for a donation. We're delighted to build your basic homepage for you, with materials supplied by you, and we'll ask you to click a $10 donation button. Funds will go to promoting the wiki --

Because the next development will be a domain name! This involves registration fees and also higher monthly hosting fees, in addition to a great deal of work we'll be doing on behalf of befuddled users ... hence, the donation button. This service is available now ... the donation page is up, too.
