M. Kei on the bow of the Martha Lewis

About the Author

M. Kei is a tall ship sailor and internationally acclaimed poet. He served his apprenticeship aboard a skipjack, a sail-powered oyster dredge on the Chesapeake Bay, one of the last vessels to fish commercially under sail in North America. Most recently, he joined the crew of a replica of a 17th century Dutch pinnace, a fully rigged ship and the only one in the Western hemisphere all the characteristics of her age: a whipstaff, lateen mizzen, spritsail and sprit topsail. He has experienced the hardships and pleasures of life at sea, serving in winter as well as summer, hurricanes, and other adventures.
