Daron's Guitar Chronicles
Daron's Guitar Chronicles is:
- a web serial
- a series of ebooks
- a Kickstarter project
- all of the above
Daron's Guitar Chronicles is the novel that Cecilia Tan started writing in grad school in 1992 and was still writing when she got her masters degree in writing in 1994. The "novel" wasn't finished until a few years later, when she forced herself to stop and seek a publisher. It quickly became clear that the "book" was not really a novel, but a long series of life-changing moments, telling the story of a young, gay guitarist in the closet in the 1980s who is trying to make it.
DGC won the inaugural Rose & Bay Awards for Crowdfunded Fiction in 2010, and since being released in ebook format has consistently placed on Amazon.com's Kindle bestseller lists for gay fiction and for "coming out" books.
Readers who are curious to try it out can read the entire serial for free from the website: Daron's Guitar Chronicles
Readers using a Kindle device or app can download volume one of the ebooks for free from Amazon.com. Readers using other devices can download other formats of volume one free from Smashwords.
Tan is currently (May 2012) running a Kickstarter campaign to try to raise the funds to put a paperback omnibus of volumes 1-3 into print. For more information, see the Kickstarter page: http://kck.st/IlE7Bi
