PUBLISHING HISTORY

Two editions:

Swords of the Rainbow: 1999
DreamCraft ChapBook, 2006.
DreamCraft eBook edition, 2006.

Winter lies heavily on the uplands between two great trading cities, and the only shelter for miles is the 'Breakheart,' settlement of Brennan's Rath, near the stone circle known as the Nine Sisters. On an errand, a young bondsman called Fendel rescues an enigmatic stranger by the name of Richard Leon, and uncovers a life-and-death mystery. For, Richard is an outcast member of the prestigious Scryer's Guild. Through his own foolishness he was ostracized even by his friends, and the only way back to honor is through the hunt, and the sword. For Fendel, Richard Leon's arrival in Breakheart is the turning point in a young life which has become a nightmare.

Note: this 'generation' of BREAKHEART is 1,500 words longer than the text previously published in Alyson Books' 'Swords of the Rainbow, USA, 1999.

BREAKHEART

REVIEWED BY JEFF

It's many years since I read BREAKHEART for the first time. I'd borrowed the Alyson anthology, SWORDS OF THE RAINBOW, and recall deciding the Keegan piece was the best of the book. I never owned a copy, but was delighted to find BREAKHEART available as ChapBook. As a big-time fantasy aficionado, I enjoyed the gay angle ... though I could wsish Mr. K. would get his act in gear and tell the rest of this story. We get the tale from Fendel's POV, which is grand, but one can only surmise that the story from Richard's POV is actually the bigger item. And it's one I personally would very much enjoy reading. What would Mr. K. take for bribes, to do this story?? (OT, and jus for the sake of interest ... the face on the cover has been reminding me of someome for the last couple of years. Who the &@#! is it? Anyone out there able to put your finger on it? It's driving me crazy! [Stop tearing out your hair, Jeff! Jade always starts with an existing face and digitally paints another face over it, to achieve a third, unique face; but you can sometimes make a guess at who was the original. In this case, it was an extremely young Johnny Depp, who was morphed with TWO other faces to produce Fendel. According to Jade, two, three or more faces are overlaid and blended with 'inks' in the digital process ... double-dutch to us, guys. We just like the result! -ED]
