Navigation is simple ... but don't forget to "drill down." This is a wiki, and many layers deep. The wiki takes the form of lists of lists, and some lists have lists of their own!

Advertising on the wiki...

Welcome to the Showroom!

With wiki traffic now consistently well over 1,000 page loads per day -- and tickling 500 unique visitors per day -- this has become a pretty good place to advertise.

Click here to see the wiki performance charts  for September 2009-- before the Christmas Campaign begins! This is our new "base line," and from here, with advertising, we fully expect these numbers to go somewhat ballistic. We'll have another chart for comparison, after the Christmas promotion -- but the September chart is very, very pretty! Time to pat yourselves on the back, guys: networking has achieved this in about three weeks flat!

Like any website, we have troughs and peaks, and this will always be true, even this tens of thousands of visitors per week. The deadest day of the week has shifted to something like Thursday, so routinely that we call it the "mid-week trough."

At the time of this writing mid-October the wiki's own advertising is well underway: wiki banners and press releases announcing this community have been appearing in strategic places, and traffic headed northwards very rapidly. Since we opened up advertising within the wiki pages, for members, and -- talk about getting knocked down in the rush! It's been wonderful, and we thank you all and -- yes, all proceeds go to maintaining and promoting the wiki.

The only downside to this is that premium advertising -- on the homepage -- has sold out for the remainder of the year ... and some have gone, right trhrough 2010, and even 2011. To manage this, we're starting to formalize "advertising bookings," and if you're thinking of being on the homepage for your booklaunch in August, it's vital to visit our Advertising Bookings page asap, and nail your spot before someone else gets in first. As the saying goes, "don't delay, do it today."

Interested in advertising with us here? Read on! Your advertising options are many, and your budget will be in single-digits ... about the same as a cup of cofee!

1. Grab a patch of the home page:

The simplest possible placement is in the sidebars: a cover, about 10 - 20 words of "teaser," and a "more..." link. Both the cover and the "more..." are links direct to your book's page.

A major step up from here is the cover/blurb combination, which utilizes a 250 pixel high cover image and a 50-word teaser. Give us the text in the body of an email, and the address of the image you'd like to use, and we combine both into a fresh image which can be pasted into the pages in a variety of ways. You have the front cover insert as shown above, but you can also use the same artwork like this to stand out on the core pages:

2. Stand out on one of the core pages:

This is very effective, because it jumps out of the body of the page ... and there are plenty of core pages on which this kind of insert can appear.

The same artwork can be used in combination, or as we like to call it; the double barrel:

3. The double barrel, on one of the hub pages:

We call this one the "double barrel" ... obviously, you can share the ad with another writer, or have two of your own titles side by side, for increased impact on subject specific pages:

4. The double barrel, on one of the subject specific index pages (ie, romance):

The beauty of this kind of ad is that it's not terribly intrusive -- it looks like part of the page, as if it belongs there. Ads in this format are about 250x300 each -- double that, obviously, for two ... and, if you wanted to look at an actual banner to occupy this space, it can be up to 700 wide, and looks like the traditional banner:

5. The traditional banner, on one of the subject specific index pages (ie, romance):

The true banner is quite a bit more intrusive, so at this point (all things being experimental!) we'd like to keep these to JPG images rather than flash animations, which are notoriously intrusive. A banner like this can be set into the body of the page, or at the bottom of the text.

And speaking of banners -- there's also the footer on the wiki, which can be major, simply because it's off the bottom of the screen! The master footer banner looks like this:

4. The master footer banner, on the footer of the wiki itself

The perfect width for a banner here is 940 pixels. 1,000 is a little bit wide, but doable. The NARC ad in the above screenshot is 1,000 pixels wide.

So the next intelligent question is -- how much does it cost to place an ad in which place?!
